Stephen Gillberry (1964 - ) Stephen Gillberry has traveled and studied much of his life, and it is this worldliness that gives Stephens’s work a distinct feel that cannot be duplicated. Stephen studied at the Ontario College of Art, located in Toronto. As well as his professional education, he studied the art of a variety of cultures in Europe, Asia, Central and South America. Stephen’s travels have played and continue to play an integral part of his work, in both palette and concept. Stephen works in Abstract and Impressionistic styles and derives many of his subjects from the complexity of natural forms and life relationships. Working in both abstract and impressionistic styles, striving to convey aspects of beauty and spirituality he encountered. Impressionistically he works with objects and figures that have qualities of simplicity and timelessness. His abstract work portrays balances and harmonies of colour and form without carrying the associations of subject matter, leaving the viewer free to bring their own perceptions to the paintings. Each piece is original, painted on canvas using the acrylic medium. |
