Tony Bianco
(Born 1964 )
Tony Bianco has been expressing himself as a full time artist since the age of twenty. In that time he has developed a diverse and keen artistic ability, as well as recognition from the art community, collectors, and his peers. His work displays a love for life, for nature, and for communicating emotion visually. He was born in Vaughan, Ontario in 1964. Beginning at an early age, he was soon selling artwork to his high school art teachers, and holding shows at local libraries and galleries. The Davidson Gallery in Toronto, which represented him and also hired him as a restoration assistant, recognized his work. This experience gave Tony a great exposure to art and the art world - an invaluable education for a fledgling artist. His work was soon noticed by collectors and galleries. Publishing contracts followed, as did corporate sales, art awards, and some unique and interesting commissions. In a field crowded with competition, Tony’s work displayed a standard of quality that was appreciated consistently. In 1990, Tony began to experiment with plein-air painting, that is, working directly from the subject, on location. Several trips to the Santa Fe and Cape Ann art communities confirmed his desire to paint nature from life. He embarked upon a study of working from life, in the landscape, throughout all seasons, striving for honesty and clarity in his style. What he found was a method of working and a style that was truly his own, not forced or contrived, but born out of a desire to truthfully communicate his excitement about what he saw. In 2000, he traveled for a year with his family across Canada, painting a series of works depicting our National Parks. This collection of works has grown to over 150 paintings, and has been shown in a number of museums and galleries. This was also the year that he was chosen by the Royal Canadian Mint to design the millennium two-dollar coin, now in circulation, along with the 2006 two-dollar coin. Since then, he has designed ten different coins for the Mint including coins for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Tony continues to explore his world through painting, using a variety of subjects as inspiration. He continues to paint his beloved Canada, as well as European subjects. His expression is not limited to mediums, as he has worked comfortably in oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor and graphite. He now divides his time between traveling, working on location, and in the studio where he develops more complex paintings. ROYAL CANADIAN MINT COIN DESIGNS
